Starting 2012 with a healthy and Positive attitude about Life and fitness

Starting 2012 with a positive attitude!

Here and there I have friends or people who  know me and asked about what keeps me motivated to exercise, learn new things, travel, etc. It's such flattering act realizing that and I always feel humble by the kind observations.

For many people finding motivation to go the the gym may be the main obstacle, other reasons? family,  time, too sunny, too cold, too tired, too early, too late.... and the list goes on... and on... and on.

But is in our mind, is not it? Ok, maybe not all is in our mind, but perhaps a little planning may take us long way, don't you think?

We find reasons to justify why we do or don't do certain things in life, we find reasons to explain to ourselves and others why this or that can be done tomorrow, and I know, it's not an easy task to keep ourselves motivated 24/7 - during 366 days (yes, one more day to enjoy life this year).

I find motivation from many sources, there are many friends who are incredible in so many ways and I love to see and learn from them, we are very unique and I love my own uniqueness but I'm always open to see what I can learn from others. I find motivation on life, the day by day, what I like and what I want to change, what I see about myself and others lives that I want to cultivate or eliminate. I find motivation on my own challenges and limitations. When it comes to fitness and working out, yes, it's easier to just be, let life pass by... but that's not what I want, I deserve better! I want to walk through life aware of my days, what I can do better, what else I can do to change my life, and others....I want to put my efforts to leave a footprint from my little and short existence.

I found this Optimism Ladder in an article by Fiona MacKay and made me question, is my drive really in top of the ladder? where am I? where are the people I care the most? What drives us to be at any stage of this ladder?
Is it fear, comfort, mediocrity, just happy not doing something new? personality, conditions? what is it? I know how our mind also plays on the actions we take (or not) , so ask yourself what is stopping you from say I did it!  or I will do it and soon after I've done it!
Let's start this 2012 with a positive attitude, but also with a plan of action to DO what we want to do, to reach the dreams that we always wanted.  My life is the result of a successive list of dreams that I had planted since I was 13 years old... most of my dreams have became reality and those that I haven't reached, still on my list and I am still working towards them, no giving up!
Continuity, Persistance and Faith on who you are and your dreams always , always will take you where you want to be.
so where are you know?... what is your plan to be on top of the ladder?
Dream now, ACT now!

Optimism Ladder

- I did it!
- I will do it
- I can do it
- I probably can do it
- I might try to do it
- I’ll think about trying to do it
- I do want to do it
- I wish I could, but I’m not sure I can do it
- I don’t know how to do it
- I can’t do it
- I won’t try because I know I can’t do it

I thought this  may help you to get started so I just picked a few common goals and added one of them to the ladder, you can customize it as it makes sense to you, this is just so you set up reachable goals. Start with small reachable goals and short term so you can start to see results, it can be part of a bigger goal at longer term, make a plan and stick to the plan and your time line. Have fun creating fun rewards to yourself so you look forward to it too.
Here is an example of what you can do, it is just a suggestion on how you may want to approach this.

I hope you enjoy this exercise and together we start moving up the ladder, find the resources to get you there. Believe on yourself, believe on your dreams! Make of your life, the life you want to live!

Other common goals:

  1. Loose after baby’s weight (e.g short term goal: lose 4Lb by the end of January
  2. Run my first half marathon (e.g. short term goal: start running every other day
  3. Fit in my skinny jeans
  4. Try something new:  backpacking at least once a month, try a new class
  5. Save $$$ by the end of 2012 (e.g. short term goal: put aside 10% of my earnings each month)
